I don't know about now, but my family and I stayed in that particular hotel that Leah mentions in her blog in March. We had a ruptured pipe and water everywhere and were there for 3 nights with a 2 and 4 year old. We were given a room and never even had to explain why "locals" were wanting the room. They even offered to give us a handicap room so we would have more space for our children. I hate that you were treated this way because we had a great experience.

He was out at 11 pm because he was coming home from a wedding a very short distance from his own home... let's not judge him, remember, he is not here to defend himself. If you must judge someone, look to the one drinking and driving. And, yes, there are headlights and tail lights and turn signals on "those vehicles".

A 16 year old sect GIRL was pregnant with her 4th child. Explain, how that's not abuse...
"At least 41 children taken from a polygamist sect's Texas ranch have had past broken bones, officials say, and investigators are looking into the possible sexual abuse of some of the sect's young boys" - cnn.com
"The investigation is still in its early phases, but we have gathered additional information that is cause for concern," the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services said in a statement on its Web site." - cnn.com
"The statement said the department is looking into the possibility that some of the young boys taken from the Yearning for Zion Ranch near Eldorado, Texas, had been sexually abused based on interviews with the children and journal entries found at the ranch." - cnn.com
Sorry, but this additional information is enough for me to applaud CPS, law enforcement and the state of Texas. In my career, I see abused children on a daily basis, and "a possibility" is all I need to hear to ask that a child be removed from her home.

I, for one, would not want to see photos of a pregnant 13 year old (or 14 or 15 year old for that matter). Any child that is subject to that has already been a victim without having their picture plastered all over the news in order to satisfy the curiosity of people who want "proof". No underage victim should ever be laid out for the world to see. They have rights which have already been violated, and the few remaining rights they have should be protected... yes, by the state if no one else. I for one applaud CPS and the state for their efforts. I know many CPS case workers personally and know that this is definitely something that they lose sleep over. They don't get pleasure and enjoyment out of taking children from their mothers and homes, but sometimes it has to be done.

"I would not care to live as they are described as living but my ignorance or dislike do not justify stripping constitutional rights from these people just because they are different from what I'm familiar with."
Constitutional rights?? Are you serious? What about the rights of these children? Do you think they enjoy being physically and emotionally abused? Do you think a 14 year old wants to be married to a 50 year old man because some one else told her that it was the right thing to do? This is not about stripping a group of their rights because they are different. This is about protecting children who don't have a voice. This is about giving them back the rights that they are entitled to as Americans and humans. As for finding proof... how else do you expect the state and police officials to find the proof without taking action. Do you honestly think that the armed guards at this compound are just going to allow them to walk in and question their children? Do you think these children are going to be honest and open knowing that they are going to be left in the situation until enough proof is found to take them to a safe haven?

My thoughts go to Michael's family. He was an incredible person who never met a stranger. I am blessed to have known him.

Lauren-
It's humbling to see you mention Amber in your statement. Not everyone has the ability to forgive in situations like this, and its a blessing to see that. It reminds us to remember what is important. God be with you, your family as well as the Lawrence family and Amber.
