i agree with elizabeth! being abused as a child is not an excuse. i should know first hand on that one. as a child that was adopted at the age of 5 for possible sexual abuse and neglect..the family i was adopted by were physically, emotional and verbally abusive to me. unlike a 4 week old baby, i tried to have a voice, but the military covered it up. as an adult, i have still tried to have a voice and keep being revictimized over and over again. recently, i have taken back my power and am standing up.
for those who don't know this, abusive parents are very manipulative and will deny any abuse took place, and can lie with a straight face to everyone.
so i am thankful this woman has been caught and yes, i agree she should face the maximum punishment. no one should ever hurt a child...NO ONE!!!

mewdew and tb123...doesn't the office of president require a brain? wait, that's right...your republican president for the past 8 years lacked that requirement.

how dare you attack Michelle Obama's dress or style? the woman is a smart shopper and knows where to find great looking clothes. you are so nit picking on the subject. here's a tidbit for your thoughts...i model part time, and do you know where i pick up most of my outfits?! at the salvation army store and at walmart!!! you don't need to spend 150 grand to look good!!!
how's your style these days!!!
i again repeat...abilene is full of a bunch of narrow minded bigots who cannot accept change...who would rather cast stones then to look into whats going on in their own lives.

Wow, i can't really say that i am shocked by the hate and narrowed mindedness of many of you who have posted. which is the main reason I left Abilene....nothing but a bunch of narrow minded bigots who raise their children to be the same. if you are a die hard republican...great for you. however, take a look at the big picture and see that the last 8 yrs under the republican party has devastated this country. We need change. We need a fresh set of eyes and a fresh mind. You say Obama lacks experiance...in my book..that means he is less corrupt. You say that Mccain knows what its like during war...to me that means that he is hungry for war. Obama grew up underpriviledged knowing what its like not knowing what the next day will bring. Mccain grew up as a spoiled military brat because of his father's rank (i knwo how that goes cause my dad was military). Mccain couldn't even tell the american people how many homes he had off the top of his head....Obama, just one.
In my opinion, Obama understands and gets it...how real America lives. mccain doesn't.
and if you want to bring up Obama's associations with people....take a good look in your mirror and ask yourself, "the people that i have associated myself with in my past....good or bad, do they reflect on who I am? Does what my priest or preacher or religious leader's comments refelct on who I am? Do i alwasy agree with what my religion or church does or says?"
before pointing fingers....look deep in yourself and find where your hatred really lies. Then stand tall and proud with the rest of America and say YES WE CAN!!!!!

i respect each and everyone of your opinions on how you feel about mccain/palin and obama/biden. I would like to point out that if you look closer, you will see that the lives of politicians are very incestuous. one will claim corruption ties to another but not admit that they have the same ties a bit further down the line.
To me, Sarah Palin isn't ready for the white house. She is literly a heartattack away from running the country. Obama knows more about how Washington works...and can get things done....Palin doesn't. that is just my opinion....we will see what the election brings.

this is my last comment on the subject: I live in rockford, il. i was at a gas station right next to the local mall and say a couple of kids who work at the mall. i asked them about this concept regarding banning underage without parental supervision and the response from not only the teens but also other people around who heard me ask how they would feel if the mall here were to implenet the same rule...."it should be done here..and kudos for the mall in abilene." another person had said that they don't go the mall anymore since their young child was knocked over by a skateboarding teen at the mall. he would go back and enjoy shopping if that ban was to take place. i heard this from numerous people. for a trip inside the gas station to grab a pop...i was there for a good hour with many people overhearing the conversation and agreeing with the mall of abilene.
so, to recap...its a wonderful idea and more people in other parts of the US would love to see this implemented in their local malls as well.

forjustalark: i read your post on the other page...about this being age discrimination. i have a question that i have been pondering....if the mall requiring youths to be accompanied by parents only 8 hrs between fri and sat is age discrimination...then does that mean that clubs and bars also discrimate against age because they require people to be at least 21? or even for employment...kids have to be 16 to be legally employed...is that age discrimination as well?!
i don't know how well this will work...but its worth a try and it seems as though most of the community of abilene is backing and for the mall's new rule.
Let's give it a chance and see how it goes.

Good point geng. how about you bring that up at the next city counsil meeting. ask the city to assist in funding for programs for these kids. i'd help out..but i live in IL now. and we have all sorts of programs out here to help kids stay out of trouble, mainly because people are active in teh community and go to the city counsil meetings.

ok geng..granted you have worked with kids and yada yada yada. instead of protesting the mall's new ordinance and getting all pissy, how bout you do something more with your time and organize some community events for these kids. these kids need supervision...not to be left to their devices...that is what causes them to get into trouble. sure kids have rights....but not the same as adults...not until the age of 18. until then, their rights are limited...to having food, shelter and love. there is no law saying the parents nor the public have to deal with kids who are rude, incondsierate, and make experiances while shopping miserable. maybe start a program where the kids learn appropriate behavior, even self esteem programs. anything that will get these kids to turn into repectable adults and not end up in the justice system.

its a shame what happenned to this little baby. it's also a shame that child abuse isn't discussed until either a child dies or severe sexual abuse happens. child abuse isn't just physical and sexual...its also emotional abuse and verbal abuse. i would really like the media to cover all forms of child abuse.
