As someone with a medical education, I will tell you that 40% blockage of someones coronary arteries is very minimal. Most people walk around everyday with 40% blockage.

Angioplasty or placing a stent in the vessel will not even be considered unless there is at least 70% blockage. Coronary artery bypass surgery as I believe you are referencing, is only performed if someone has significant blockage in multiple coronary arteries. That doesn't sound like the case here.

In this patient, it seems he had an arrythmia, some heart valve insufficiency, and minimal coronary artery stenosis. These are not uncommon conditions. None of these seem to be very severe as the cardiologist would have done something about it.

The other possibility is that maybe this person has a contraindication against having heart surgery, however I find this unlikely as surgery does not seem to be even warranted in this case.

Lastly, a 53 year old male with such numerous heart conditions must have a family history of heart disease, and also likely has diabetes, Hypertension, and is a current or former smoker.

And realize that heart disease is the #1 killer in the US. In my experience in medicine, doctors will order every test necessary to rule out any acute severe heart conditions. It is almost always "overkill" and completely unnecessary but doctors realize they don't want to miss anything.

I don't think its a good idea to bash every doctor in this city when a person doesn't necessarily understand everything that has occurred. Realize that when you roll into the emergency room in the middle of the night with a heart attack, a doctor is going to be woken up from home, to come see you in your time of need.

Spending public money to help a private medical research company is ridiculous. The federal government spends billions a year financing research through universities and research hospitals. The difference here is that this private sector company dealing in medical research is in it for the money, not the advancement of science, education of graduate students, or advancements in medicine. If their ventures were not potentially profitable, they would not be doing this work. That is the bottom line.

If a scientist at a university makes a discovery that worth billions, the money goes back into the university to finance more research at that institution. Say this company discovers a billion dollar drug, are they going to share the profits with the city of Abilene??? I highly doubt it.

so this lady lives in abilene, and got so pissed off that instead of just going home, she had to get revenge and drove 2 hours to weatherford to stay in a hotel. seriously...?

while i do believe the hotel really wouldnt rent the room to a local, knowing this about her way of thinking leads me to question what really is going on with this person.

anyone remember how crappy the airport was 15 years ago before all these "necessary" improvements? you might also remember there were three airlines, american eagle, ASA, and someother one. American eagle also had more flights back then also as they have cut back two evening flights recently.

so as i understand it, millions have been wasted at the abilene airport and now we have far fewer flights than before, even with the new escalators, ridiculous baggage carousel, jetways, and paved parkings.

one of the ideas in favor of this have been that people will come from out of town all over texas to play in this park.

does anyone think this is a realistic assessment when gas hits 4 dollars a gallon?

i'm guessing most parents would rather play in their home city rather than spend money they don't have to drive somewhere else.
