Sidney Levesque

Sidney Levesque is a Dallas native who has lived in Abilene since 1995, when she started attending Abilene Christian University. She graduated in 1999 with a journalism degree and went to work for the Abilene Reporter-News a week later. She started writing for special publications at the paper, then moved into the military beat, covering Dyess Air Force Base, veterans and other military affairs for two years before moving to the education beat.

As the education reporter for six years, Sidney covered Abilene and area public schools. She won a Silver Apple award from the Texas Classroom Teachers Association and a School Bell award from the Texas State Teachers Association for coverage of downsizing at Abilene ISD.

In 2007, Sidney took on a newly created position at the paper - community content editor. In this role, she oversees the freelance reporters who contribute stories as well as content submitted by the public, including the Abilenian, letters to the editor, guest columns and the community calendar. She enjoys sharing with people how they can submit their photos and news to the paper so don't hesitate to call her.

Outside of work, Sidney and her husband, KTXS-TV news director George Levesque, enjoy watching movies and sampling the fine dining in the Abilene area. They are remodeling a 1921 bungalow and raising two cats, BB and Miss Monroe.

Sidney also enjoys genealogy and antiques and is involved in the Abilene Preservation League, First Central Presbyterian Church and is a Big Sis with the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization.
