When Democrats in the Texas Senate fled the state in 2003 as a last stand in their fight against a new redistricting map, Sarah covered the controversy from the Capitol as a reporter for the Daily Texan, the student newspaper at the University of Texas at Austin. That's when she fell in love with covering politics.

Since then, she has covered the Democratic National Convention in Denver, interviewed presidential hopeful Barack Obama and former Secretary of Defense Robert S. McNamara, and she has recorded campaign visits by former President Bill Clinton and presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee.

After graduating from UT in 2004 with a degree in journalism, Sarah worked for the Midland Reporter-Telegram as the education/state politics reporter until May 2005. She then moved to Abilene to cover the City Hall and politics beat at the Abilene Reporter-News. In late 2007, she became the leader of the video team, a new online venture for the Reporter-News.

Sarah was named the 2007 employee of the year at the Reporter-News. She has also earned four Texas Associated Press Managing Editor Awards - including second place in the Star Investigative Report category - and two annual and two quarterly awards from E.W. Scripps, the Reporter-News' parent company.

Sarah and Nathan Varble were married at the Holy Family Catholic Church in August 2006. Nathan is working to earn his license to be an architect at the Tittle Luther Partnership. In their spare time, they work on their 1926 house, fix old cars, play softball and take care of their pets, Schmitty and Ilby. Sarah plays clarinet in the Abilene Community Band.
