Contact Doug via e-mailDoug Myers is a staff writer who covers Abilene city government, politics and general assignments for the Reporter-News. He started as a correspondent for the Reporter-News late last year before being hired as a full-time staff writer in January.
He has won a number of awards and has written for daily newspapers in Cleburne, Texarkana and Baton Rouge, where he served as a reporter in the Capitol Bureau and covered education, public transportation and the Legislature for nearly nine years. He also spent about six years as director of communications for the Louisiana Department of Education.
Doug has been married to his wife, Rene', for 20 years and has two children -- Trey, 12, and Tyler, 9.
He loves to read, write, enjoy sports, and watch movies of all sorts. He especially likes to throw the ball around and work with his two boys on the various sports that they play.
