Darren Nielsen has been a news editor and copy editor in Texas since 1994. Darren worked stints at the Fort Worth Star-Telegram and the Dallas Morning News before moving to the Abilene Reporter-News as lead copy editor. In that role, Darren copy edits and writes headlines for the news pages, often concentrating on the front page.

Darren received his bachelor’s degree in communication, with a second major in English, from Washington State University, the same school that provided the inspiration for the Cooper High Cougars logo. (If you see a black truck around town with a "Wazzu" Cougar head logo, that’s him.)

When he’s not working, Darren is most likely playing blues guitar. He counts among his heroes several Texas musicians, including T-Bone Walker, Freddie King and the Vaughan brothers.
