To most of her family, Daralyn Schoenewald is known as "Scope" because from the time she was very young, she was always asking questions and checking things out. Not a single friend or family member was surprised when she declared journalism as her major. She graduated from California State University, Fullerton in 2007 with a degree in print journalism.

While there, Daralyn wrote for the award-winning student newspaper the Daily Titan, interned at US Weekly magazine in Los Angeles and at the Ventura County Star, a sister paper of the Reporter-News. She came to the Reporter-News in January and covers crime and courts for the paper. She can often be found at the Taylor County Courthouse or at the Law Enforcement Center in Abilene.

On her days off, she's most likely to be found at a Starbucks, sipping an iced espresso and reading. Daralyn loves to read almost as much as she loves to watch TV. She just got a DVR and has become obsessed with recording her favorite programs, especially crime shows.

Daralyn enjoys playing Scrabble and spends a lot of time with her puppy, a beagle she named Hildy after the lead character in "His Girl Friday."
