One thing to try:
To get greens fully clean, soak them in a large bowl of water, swirl them a few times and then lift them out of the water (instead of pouring the water out of the bowl). Repeat, changing the water each time, until there's no more grit visible in the water. Dry the leaves in a salad spinner, or between paper towels. -- Food Network Kitchens
