Please show retirees respect

I have watched with interest the ongoing dialogue between the Abilene city manager and several of the retired city employees concerning cost of living raises. Please allow me to cast my support for the retirees.

I am a retired employee of the state of Texas. I retired in 1992 after 36 years of state service and four years of military time, which I was allowed to buy into the system. This gave me 40 years of service.

Sometime in the mid to late 1990s, we were given a cost of living raise and nothing of any type since then. This is a pitiful thing to get caught up in and certainly does not speak well for our state representatives and senators who fail session after session to do anything to help us.

Abilene, please show your retirees more respect than we state retirees are getting from our elected officials by helping them to keep up with inflation and the cost of living.

Government is what causes the increase in "cost-of-lving"!

Vote for Bob Barr in November!!!
