Sweetwater -- Over the past two seasons, the Colorado Wolves have averaged about seven points per game. Through two games this season, they're averaging almost five times that.

After scoring 27 points in a season-opening win over Reagan County, the Wolves racked up 488 yards of total offense Saturday to move to 2-0 on the season with a 42-14 rout of Anson at the Sammy Baugh Classic in Sweetwater.

Led by quarterback Clint White and running back Jamarcus Brooks, the Wolves' balanced attack moved the ball with relative ease, tallying nine plays of 20 or more yards.

"It was nice to see some of those big plays," Colorado coach Frank Johnson said. "We haven't had those in a few years, so it was nice to have those back and the ability to do something like that."

Colorado started their scoring barrage early.

After Brooks fumbled the ball away on the Wolves' first play from scrimmage, he put Colorado on the board on its second possession.

From the shotgun, Brooks took an inside handoff from White, beat the defense to his right and streaked down the sideline for a 69-yard score. That gave the Wolves a 7-0 lead with 9:30 to play in the first quarter.

Five minutes later, after an Anson interception at the Colorado 14-yard line, the Wolves added to their lead when White hit Derrek Gutierrez with an underthrown deep ball for a 45-yard touchdown strike.

Anson answered on its following possession to cut Colorado's lead to six points at 13-7 and that score stood heading into the second quarter, during which the Wolves took control of the game.

Colorado took advantage of an Anson fumble, used strong pressure defense and continued to excel on offense to stretch their lead to 33-7.

On their opening drive of the period, the Wolves marched 80 yards in 11 plays and White found Brooks from two yards out to put Colorado up 19-7.

Anson fumbled the ensuing the kickoff and the Wolves capitalized. After an incomplete pass on a pump-and-go, White scampered 33 yards on a quarterback draw to tack on seven more points.

Later in the second, White found Brooks again, hitting the wide-open running back with a 52-yard pass up the seam for his third touchdown pass of the contest.

White finished the game with 337 yards of total offense and five touchdowns.

He completed 11 of 21 pass attempts for 202 yards and four scores and collected 135 yards and a touchdown on the ground on just 11 carries.

"Clint's one of those straight-A students. He's very smart and generally he makes very good decisions," Johnson said. "Clint's one those that knows all 11 assignments out there, so if anybody's confused, he can straighten them out.

"He's just a good leader and that really helps."

Colorado tacked on a field goal in the opening minutes of the second half, and Anson answered with a touchdown to make the score 36-14 with 3:15 left in the third.

The Tigers (1-1) were given one last chance to make the game interesting a minute later when a Colorado fumble gave them the ball at the Wolves' 21-yard line. But Garrett Brown's second interception of the game sent the momentum back to the Wolves and sealed the Colorado victory.

"We were having trouble stopping them and when we got down there a few times, we couldn't score," Anson coach Darryl Cash said. "They're a good football team and you just can't do that."

Wolves have always had a tough "D". Now their offense is getting a piece of the action. This group is hungry so look for some upsets.
