Wreck near Abilene claims man's life

A Virginia motorcyclist died Wednesday afternoon after colliding with an 18-wheeler on Interstate 20.

Boss Thomas Dolen, 55, of Highland Springs, VA. was driving a blue 2009 Harley Davidson when he entered the interstate eastbound near mile marker 279 in Tye.

Dolen merged left into traffic from the on ramp and failed to yield to the 18-wheeler, hitting the side of the big rig, said Department of Public Safety Sgt. Larry Adams. He struck the right side of 18-wheeler near the rear tires, he said.

The 18-wheeler was en route to Maine from Odessa, according to a DPS news release.

There was no indication that the motorcyclist was under the influence of drugs or alcohol and he had been wearing a helmet, Adams said.

DPS spokesman Sparky Dean said it was unclear why Dolen was in the Abilene area.

I regret the loss of life and I wish God's compassion on the man's family and loved ones.

My policy when riding was always "never argue the right of way with anything bigger or faster than you are". It didn't keep a drunk from running over me from behind though.

Thank you......finally people seeing the other side about motorists. I am not trying to sound negative about motorists, it is just that it is getting old reading how people are going against vehicles saying that they need to look twice at motorists and that motorists are just innocent when they also need to look twice just the same as everyone else. How can you miss a 18-wheeler. No one will know whether or not he did look but surely he would have seen it. My heart and prayers go out to his family and the driver of the truck. I know that had an affect him as well.

I hope you never lose anyone close to you and other people make light of the situation!
