Julius Nyango and Daniel Maina finished eighth and ninth, respectively, Saturday at the Oklahoma State Cowboy Jamboree to help the Wildcats to a fourth-place finish in the team race.
The Wildcats finished with 102 total points, while Oklahoma State -- ranked No. 2 in the nation in the latest NCAA Division I poll -- won the team championship with 38 points. Northern Arizona was second with 88 points, followed by Indiana (98) and ACU (102).
On the women's side, Northern Arizona won the team championship with 61 points, followed by Oklahoma State with 118 points, and Miami (Ohio) in third. The ACU women finished tied for 19th with 530 points.
Sophomore Winrose Karunde was the Wildcats' highest finisher, covering the 6,000-meter course in 22:08, while Loice Cheboi finished 42nd in 22:35. Kansas State standout Beverly Ramos won the individual title in 20:30 to edge Caroline Karunde of Wayland Baptist (20:33).
On the men's side, ACU's top five runners finished in the top 32 Saturday -- Serge Gasore was 22nd, Amos Sang was 31st and Charles White was 32nd. Nyango covered the 8,000-meter course in 24:23, while Maina was ninth in 24:24. Gasore finished in 24:58, while Sang crossed the finish line in 25:19 with White close behind in 25:22.
San Angelo schools sweep Jim Ned Warpath Run
San Angelo Lake View and San Angelo Central won the boys and girls events respectively at the Jim Ned Warpath Run in Tuscola on Saturday.
Lake View finished with 32 points, followed by Midland High (74) and Midland Lee (80); Central finished with 47 points to win the girls meet, followed by Wylie (83), Cooper (51) and Hamlin (143).
Wylie's Reid Strong took first in the boys' individual standings with a time of 15:44.2, followed by Snyder's Dominic Cabrera (16:28.9).
Hamlin's Jaylen Rodgers was the top individual girls finisher at 13:33.3, followed by Grape Creek's Alex Gallimorer (13:41.9) and Cooper's Rebecca Swenson (13:42.2).

McMurry men, women fall to the Ozarks
The University of the Ozarks won two matches against McMurry in men's and women's American Southwest Conference soccer action at Edwards Field on Saturday.
The Lady Eagles beat the McMurry women, 2-0, before the Ozarks men squeaked by McMurry, 3-2.
In the men's match, both teams were tied at two before the Ozarks' Jason Owens scored a goal in the 85th minute.
With the loss, the McMurry men fall to 0-8 on the year and 0-5 in ASC play. The Tigers improve to 6-2-2 and 1-2-1.
The women's match also was closely contested. Despite being outshot 21-4, McMurry goalkeeper Anna Murphy made 16 saves to keep her team in the game.
Ozarks first got on the board in the 46th minute when Chelsea Coleman put one in the back of the net and the Tigers held a 1-0 lead at the break. In the second half, Ozarks' Marisa Maldonado added a late insurance goal for the Tigers in the 84th minute.
Tie keeps Cowboys atop ASC
Hardin-Simmons' men's soccer team slugged out a 0-0 tie against Texas-Dallas in American Southwest Conference action Saturday at the HSU Soccer Complex.
The tie pushed the Cowboys to 5-2-3 overall and 4-0-2 in ASC action. That ASC mark gives the Cowboys the outright lead in the conference standings. UT-Dallas is now 5-3-2 overall and 3-0-2 in conference action.
The game was a slugfest with 13 fouls on HSU and 11 on UT-Dallas. UTD outshot the Cowboys 16-13 and 7-4 on goal.
HSU's defense again was solid in front of freshman goalkeeper Logan Waters, who had a shutout in goal for the third straight game. He recorded six saves. Jake Brandon had four saves for UTD.
The Cowboys return to action at 1 p.m. Monday when they host Webster (Mo.).
SWIMMING
McM begins season with wins
The McMurry men's and women's swim teams won their opening matches of the season Friday at home against Austin College.
The McMurry men beat the Kangaroos 147-48, while the McMurry women won 110-82.
Two McMurry women's records fell Friday. Erin Johnson bettered her own record in the 100-yard butterfly -- the new mark is 1:00.34 -- and freshman phenom Amber Perkins broke her school record in the 500-yard freestyle by swimming 5:19.33 -- nearly a minute ahead of the second-place finisher.
The McMurry women and men both won the 200-yard medley relay.
In the 1,000-yard freestyle, McMurry's Natalie Colpitts won for the women while Aaron Valenzuela won for the men.
VOLLEYBALL
ACU bounces back
After dropping two straight matches for the first time in 2008 on Friday, Abilene Christian rebounded with a 3-0 sweep over Newman University on Saturday in Pittsburg, Kan.
Later in the day, No. 16-ranked Pittsburg State had three players with at least 10 kills and the Gorillas rolled through ACU 25-13, 25-15, 25-22, 25-23. The loss leaves Abilene Christian at 14-6 this season.
Cowgirls win pair
Hardin-Simmons' volleyball team won a pair of matches Saturday in the American Southwest Conference crossover tournament that it hosted at the Mabee Complex.
In the morning match, the Cowgirls defeated East Texas Baptist 25-22, 25-14, 22-25, 25-17 to give the Lady Tigers their first conference loss.
Kaela Parnell led the Cowgirl offense with 12 kills, Cambra Hughes added nine and Chelsie Fowler and Diona Massey had eight each. Massey hit .500 for the match. Defensively, Sam Lucien led the effort with 15 digs and Amanda Mace added 11 to go with her seven kills.
Massey had six blocks and Parnell was in on seven for the Cowgirls. ETBU was led by Mary Morgan Swanson with 13 kills and Tiffany Allen had 21 digs for ETBU.
In the second match, the Cowgirls swept Mississippi College 25-14, 25-20, 25-12. Parnell had 11 kills and Fowler chipped in with nine kills and seven digs. Gracen Harris had 15 digs. MC was led by Jessica Torick's six kills.
HSU improved to 10-6 overall and 7-1 in league play. The Cowgirls will host crosstown rival McMurry at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
McMurry wins two matches
The McMurry volleyball team won two matches Saturday to conclude play at the American Southwest Conference crossover tournament at Kimbrell Arena.
McMurry first knocked off Mississippi College, 3-1, before sweeping LeTourneau to finish the two-day tournament.
The two wins on Saturday push McMurry to 12-5 on the year and 6-3 in ASC play. McMurry returns to action at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Hardin-Simmons.
In match one Saturday, McMurry held Mississippi College to a paltry .058 attack percentage.
Junior outside hitter Danielle Kelton led the offensive attack with a double-double performance of a match-high 13 kills and 10 digs as McMurry won 25-16, 25-14, 17-25, 25-23.
As a team, McMurry had a .226 attack percentage. Besides Kelton, senior outside hitter Erica English was the only double-digit kill performer as she finished with 11. Junior middle blocker Terah Brown added eight kills, while sophomore outside hitter Mandie Moore added seven.
