McMurry University accepting FasTrack to Teaching applications

McMurry University is now accepting applications for its FasTrack to Teaching program, which is designed for those who have college degrees in teaching fields and wish to become teachers as quickly as possible. In most cases, FasTrack students can complete certification requirements in about a year. Students with degrees in some teaching fields can be in the classroom teaching with as little as one summer of coursework.

For a brochure and an application, call the McMurry University School of Education at (325) 793-4890. The deadline for the Summer session is Monday.

Celebration Singers concert

The Celebration Singers will hold their Spring 2008 Concert, “For the Love of Music,” at 7:30 p.m. June 3 at the Paramount Theatre. Betty Ann Blackburn will direct as the group performs church, folk and patriotic favorites.

Purchases at Baack’s to help DRI

Baack’s Wholesale Greenhouse, 3333 Maple St., will donate part of every sale on Friday and Saturday to Disability Resources Inc. The purpose of DRI is to provide residential care; training and meaningful jobs for developmentally disabled individuals who qualify for the program. DRI is financed by private donations, residential fees, vocational enterprises and some State funds. At the present time, DRI operates four residential facilities.

Some of the residents of DRI will be on hand to greet Baack’s customers and to help carry out purchases.

American Legion flea market

American Legion Parramore Post 57 will sponsor a charity Flea Market/Garage Sale and Classic Car Display from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the VFW Post 6873 Pavilion area. All money raised by this public event will be used for the post’s local community programs.

To rent a spot, contact the American Legion at (325) 672-8348 or post57@suddenlinkmail.com. The cost is $25 for each spot.

Benefit dance recital

Students at the Patty Harper Dance Studio will perform “Life is a Highway,” the 39th annual benefit recital for the Abilene Food Bank, at 2 p.m. June 1 at the Abilene Civic Center. Students will perform ballet, tap and jazz under the direction of Mary Milstead, Judy Surles, Jenna Moore and Courtney Cagle.

The performance is free but donations of non perishable food items will be accepted at the door.
