Driver arrested in Saturday's fatal crash
The driver of a truck involved in a fatal crash southwest of Abilene on Saturday night was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, according to Taylor County Sheriff's Department records, but no official cause has been assigned to the wreck.
Jeremy Shawn Cárdenas, 25, was booked into the Taylor County Detention Center early Sunday morning on a $750 bond, according to records. He was bonded out the same day.
About 11 p.m. Saturday, a Kubota rough terrain vehicle driven by Steven Brad McDonald, 37, of Abilene, was hit from the rear by a Ford truck driven by Cárdenas, according to the DPS. McDonald was pronounced dead at the scene, while his passenger, Chad Mitchell Barr, 32, of Clyde, suffered a head injury and was hospitalized in critical condition at Hendrick Medical Center.
A rough terrain vehicle is an off-road vehicle larger than a golf cart but smaller than a truck and is used to haul equipment and materials.
Troopers are continuing to investigate the crash.
The DPS report of the crash said alcohol may have been a factor.
