Roger Caraway attends assisted living symposium

Roger Caraway, director of residential services at Disability Resources Inc., attended the 10th annual Texas Health Care Association Assisted Living Symposium. The symposium covered disaster preparedness, state regulatory rewrite, national assisted living legislative scene, staff recruitment and retention, staff training and communications, and grass roots advocacy for affecting real change.

JCPenney employee awards

The Annual Store Award winners for 2007 at the JCPenney Store at the Mall of Abilene are:

Associate of the year -- Sarah Jeffries.

Eulene Coan Award for Outstanding Customer Service -- Lou Ann Hertel

Salon Stylist of the year -- Amy Webb.

Annual Awards were presented to these associates during an awards day celebration on May 10.

Dowtech expands services

Dowtech Specialty Contractors, at 4703 CR 527 in Baird, has announced that it is now offering steel building construction, in addition to its other construction services.

Allstate specialist earns award

Bryan Shilcutt, CHFC, has been recognized by Allstate Financial Services as the top Exclusive Financial Specialist in Texas for manufactured annuity products in 2007.

Shilcutt and his wife were guests of the company at its annual Chairman's Conference held in March in Sydney, Australia.

Local man wins national broadcasting award

J R Kessler, of Abilene, has been recognized by the National Broadcasting Society with its Professional Member of the Year award for 2007-2008. The honor was granted at the NBS National Convention held March 16 in Anaheim, Calif.

Kessler coordinated regional and national student electronic media competitions, contributed to the organization of the national convention and produced the student electronic media awards ceremony at the convention in Anaheim in addition to volunteer work with students in Abilene. He is a professional member of NBS and owner of Vital Video in Abilene. He is a Ph.D. candidate at Regent University and former broadcasting instructor at Abilene Christian University.

The National Broadcasting Society is a student and professional society dedicated to preparing college students and entry-level professionals for careers in the electronic media.

Knox Waste Service earns small business award

Greg Knox, the late president of Knox Waste Service, and Merle Knox, vice president of Knox Waste Service, were recently named the Small Business Persons of the Year for 2007 from the U.S. Small Business Administration. Knox Waste Service, which is located in Tye with a branch office in Kermit, is a member of the Lubbock District of the SBA, which covers 71 Texas counties.

Knox Waste Service was chosen for showing validated successes and progressive growth in their business starting in January 2001.

Greg Knox passed away in February from a sudden illness. His family lives in the Tuscola area.

Merle Knox lives in the Baird area with his wife, Carolyn.
