Teen who coaxed toddlers to smoke pot gets 8 years

FORT WORTH -- One of the two teenagers caught on video coaxing two young children into smoking marijuana was sentenced to eight years in prison by a Fort Worth jury on Thursday.

Demetris McCoy, 18, pleaded guilty to two charges of injury to a child/causing bodily injury and agreed with prosecutors to testify against his co-defendant, Vanswan Polty, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported in its online edition Thursday.

While conducting a search at a Watauga home, Fort Worth police said they found a videotape of two teens handing marijuana to two children who were 2 and 4 years old at the time. McCoy is the children's uncle.

Drug tests performed on the children revealed they had marijuana and cocaine in their system. The children have since been placed in foster care.

McCoy also pleaded guilty to two charges of burglary of a habitation and received eight years in each of those cases. All the sentences will run at the same time, the paper reported.

Polty, 19, remains in the Tarrant County Jail awaiting trial. He faces two charges of injury to a child and other charges.

The children's mother was asleep and didn't know what was going on, police have said.

'the children's mother was asleep and didnt know what was going on, police said.' Thats a load of BS., if ever their was one. I would almost bet that on other occasions the mom joined in with the festivities and smoked a lil' weed, along with her brother. Wonder why the mom wasn't drug tested also? Maybe she was, maybe she wasn't. Either way, if I would've been there; she definitely would have been, and then(as Paul Harvey would say-'we would know the rest of the story.'.

Probably was since children were removed. Thankfully, they were removed.

I have to agree with wmarkp on this one...I would have a hard time believing that the mom wasn't part of this scene also --- (maybe not with the babies) but obviously the teens felt comfortable enough to do it right there at the house with her in the other room...

AND what about the cocaine in their system also...WOW, those poor babies!

On some kids it's spare the cowboy belt - produce another over confident spoiled brat loosed on the world. But then again there's the kid abusers that don't deserve kids. Maybe we need to temporarily sterilize kids before breeding age and make them apply to have a kid along with a year or two of group counseling, parent and financial training psychological exams, and financial and background check. Maybe a grandparent check also at the same time...the churches and other breeding centers would be mad but the kids would be safer and happier. Might stop a lot of divorces, single parents and welfare costs.
