ABILENE

Bicycle tour: A tour of 30 cyclists participating in the Journey of Hope, a program of Push America, will visit Abilene on July 18. The cyclists started in San Francisco, and are riding to raise funds and promote awareness on behalf of people with disabilities.

They will visit Disability Resources Inc. from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., and will arrive at Abilene Adaptive Recreation Services at 1:30 p.m. for a welcome ceremony and friendship visit. They will present the Kids on the Block, a puppet show to educate children on disability awareness and acceptance, at 3 p.m.

DE LEON

Cleanup: A Clean-Up Week with curbside pick up will be held July 19-26 in De Leon. The pickup date is July 19 for the west side of De Leon and July 26 for the east side.

Roll-off containers will be at the old city yard from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. A photo ID or driver's license must be presented along with a water bill from the city of De Leon. For more information, call (254) 893-2065.

Miss Gorman: Kimi Season was recently crowned as "2008 Miss Gorman." Brylee Johnson was crowned Little Miss Gorman.

Cookbooks: The cookbook "Recipes and Remembrances" is now on sale from the Local Order of the Confederate Rose, Cactus Rose Chapter 23, in Gorman.

The rice is $20 and includes a CD with a history of the Confederate flags and music. All proceeds will be used by local Sons of Confederate Veterans for a scholarship fund and Civil War memorials.

TRICKHAM

Town history: Felton Martin, the son of two early day area school teachers, will bring his notes and stories on the Trickham area and review the history and tall tales of the area at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Trickham School (Community Center).
