A woman's drive to the hospital to see her child took longer than expected Monday night after a two-vehicle wreck at the intersection of Mulberry and North 13th streets.

Witnesses and police said a red Chevrolet pickup traveling north on Mulberry Street ran multiple stops signs and struck an eastbound blue Chevrolet Blazer, flipping the Blazer and bouncing the truck off a tree.

"I was still on the phone with 911 as I checked on the driver of this blue vehicle," said Joseph Becker, who was sitting outside his mother's house on Mulberry Street when the crash occurred.

Becker talked to the woman driving the Blazer for a few minutes before emergency personnel arrived.

"She was in shock, quite hysterical," Becker said. "She was more concerned with her child that she has up at Hendricks, who she was apparently on her way to see, than herself."

Neither Becker nor any other witnesses caught the names of those involved in the wreck, but Becker said the woman "appeared to be OK."

Names for two men in the pickup could not be obtained, and officials at Hendrick Medical Center could not confirm the names or conditions of anyone because of hospital policy.

Maria Martinez said she was driving from Grape Street toward Mulberry and was about to call her mother when she saw the wreck.

"I was reaching for my phone in my purse, and as soon as I looked up I saw something real fast coming," Martinez said. "That's when I saw the blue Blazer spin ... and it landed. That's when I called 911."

Another witness, Dorothy Renfro, said she saw the wreck from her house on the corner of Mulberry and 12th streets.

"They got here before I did and I ran," Renfro said. "All I saw was the EMTs and the Fire Department trying to get the woman out of the (Blazer) and trying to calm her down."

The truck hit the Blazer on the right-rear side of the vehicle and sent the SUV spinning clockwise until it hit the curb and flipped, facing the opposite way it was originally heading.

The truck then struck a tree, which spun it back onto the road, right-side-up and also facing opposite the direction it was originally traveling.

Sorry SOB.
The driver of the truck deserves to get attempted manslaughter.
I bet drugs are involved, too.

drivers in this town are IDIOTS. I can't believe the situations people put themselves in!

sunday morning I witnessed some guy driving the wrong way on Clack, a busy street where when in doubt, drive the way that the other 500 cars using the road were going. I almost wrecked trying to swerve to avoid being eaten by the F-350.

Aside from that, some dum-dum smashed into my truck in the HOme Depot parking lot.

Well thankfully no one was seriously, or mortally injured. As far as driving habits go... I think parents all over the US should stop teaching their children 'bad driving habits' by example, and start driving vehicles responsibly, and with the greatest concern for their own safety as well as their childrens safety. Eventually, in twenty years or more, the only drivers on the road will be the safe conscientious drivers. Up until that day arrives, drive at your own risk; but you can have a 6point restraint installed in your vehicle, along with safety pads and a helmet to wear. Also, wrap around bumpers might be a good idea also. And maybe video surveilance of all areas around your vehicle, so that way you will know when you have pulled out in front of, or cut off another car,or 18 wheeler, and you can grab the steering wheel tighter, for the impact that is certainly 'coming'. Or, you can simply remember, and diligently practice 'safe driving techniques' every time you get behind the steering wheel. Stop fumbling with whatever, texting your friends, putting on makeup, changing clothes, drinking coffee and eating a sausage-biscuit, yelling at your kids, talking on the phone, changing the station on the radio, or day-dreaming while driving. Put everything not concerning driving that vehicle out of your mind and concentrate on only driving that vehicle; after all, I think everyone forgets, or takes it for granted that a car traveling even 15mph can be a 'deadly weapon'.
