False e-mails biased against Obama

I join Jim Fisher in his concern regarding the "well-orchestrated e-mail campaign circulating through Christian circles."

I have not received a single negative e-mail referencing John McCain, but I am receiving one to five a week biased against Sen. Barack Obama. All of these have come to me from Christian friends or family members.

What I find sobering is after fact-checking each of these dozens and dozens of e-mails, only two have been true. There are several Web sites to check the truth or fiction of an e-mail, and it only takes a few minutes.

It appears Christians are being targeted and used to poison the political well and having their own credibility thrown into question at the same time.

Ah, those "christians"...always ready to ignore the precepts of their own belief systems if they think there's a good enough reason. Good thing for them there's no "god", or they'd be in deep sewage!

I wonder as I read more and more of these 'letters to the editor', that what is going on is that Obama supporters are pretending to be one of those 'right wing Christian Groups' and are sending these e-mails to other Obama supporters, so they can then write the paper and complain to try and create the 'Obama Guilt' effect. The 'Obama Guilt' effect is the attempts by Obama supporters to try and get votes by guilt. Because during the past few weeks the total number of these "anti-Obama e-mails" I have gotten is ZERO.

wbarloww,
Post your email address and I will send you all the ones I receive from the "Christians" and yes they claim to be Christians.

Mine are all coming from people who know I am voting for Obama and are trying to change my mind. But these are the same people who believe everything they see on the internet. Guess they figure I will, too.

AMEN Nancy Reynolds, You've hit the nail on the head. I'm an Independent Ron Paul supporter and I have been getting these "bearing false witness" emails from my "Church going Christian, Conservative Family Values Republican" friends and family members as well. I've even gone so far as to reply with sites for them to check out that confirm that the information contained in the emails that they forwarded to me contained information that rises to the level of "bearing false witness". The most astounding response to one of my reply emails was "It was meant as a JOKE" ! I'm really not surprised at this type of behaviour coming out of the Bible Belt ! When I receive these type of emails in the future, I'm going to reply with a “tumor of the soul” link:

donnavan,

So you will send me the one that really originate with MoveOn.org or the DNC? Because they might just be the ones behind it. Or are you about to deny that any Obama/DNC/MovewOn.org operatives might be behind any of the 'Bad Obama' e-mail.

The false emails come from the Michael Reagan, Rush Limbaugh,FOX NEWS (we distort, you decide)machine. The real problem is that these well educated individuals know that they are spreading lies. They're not interested in the truth being broadcast, just with doing anything to get their party elected. The real losers are the ones that frantically forward these emails to everyone that they know, not knowing that there is a "cookie" attached that reports all the email addresses back to the origional senders of this hate mail. That's why they continue to be flooded with requests to keep sending this propoganda. The Right Wing knows how to work the dirty tricks, internet, You Tube machine. But, America had figured out the lies of the past eight years. That is why Barack Obama is the next President of the United States. It's called honesty.

Obamassiah-ship is in overdrive, ughhhh!
Did you read what that nitwit's economic advisors wrote in the WSJ this week? They
took another play out of his political playbook
by not backing up their own claims about his
economic policy.

No, Obama is not the answer- why? Because he
doesn't "answer" anything with facts- only grand displays of rhetoric and flowing platitudes. He
refuses to be interviewed by anyone whose nose
isn't stuck up his crack and farting his praises...

Anyone who needs an Internet story or an e-mail to help make up their mind about who to vote for in a Presidential election is too stupid to be allowed to vote in the first place.

Posted by dr__dawggy on August 16, 2008 at 3:45 p.m. (Suggest removal)

There is no test for stupidity at the voting booth, Wild_Bill...An unfortunate fact of modern life is that all too many voters DO accept emails and internet stories at face value and vote accordingly.

vrm1969...thanks for the link....I wonder how the commentator knows that Jesus would support bombing terrorists, real and imagined, instead of turning the other cheek? I have a pretty good working knowledge of the Gospels and cannot recall a single verse that would enable me to state with moral certainty that Jesus would condone our war against Iraq or Afghanistan.

Earthly "morals" do not equate to heavenly insight or wisdom, they fall miserably short of the mark. Thus, we have grace...

So its the Christians again. I am sure glad the "pagans" never do anything wrong. Come on folks, this is politics. Do not make such sweeping generalities.

The What Would Jesus Do argument, is a straw man. You can turn that into anything to support your position.

That's a thought dr_dawggy. Perhaps we need a "Poll TEST" instead of the old Poll Tax? Hell, we have trouble getting all our students to pass the TAKS test. Can you imagine if all voters had to pass a competency test? Considering the idiots on "JayWalking", we'd be lucky to get 2% passing rate on any political, historical or social competency test. We just THINK voter turn out is low now! HA!

Thank you for the best laugh I've had all day!

If a civics test were required the socialist-Democrats would never win another election. I for one think there should be a required exam when registering to vote. I'd rather 2% of the population make an educated vote than 98% of the population vote for someone based purely on demographics/feelings. The greatest threat to our country lies within.

Anyone watch Rick Warren interview Obama and McCain on CNN or Fox tonight? Interesting... One answered the questions, the other told stories (quite moving & patriotic), and has no idea what "rich" is and believes he can run this country without raising taxes.

Trillions of dollars in debt and no plans to change anything...wow...there's a miracle in the making.

"Anyone watch Rick Warren interview Obama and McCain on CNN or Fox tonight? Interesting... One answered the questions, the other told stories (quite moving & patriotic),"

There it is, the big difference between the left and the right.

The right believes America is a great nation that can get better. The left believes America is as bad as Nazi Germany and is getting worse.

reaganite: You are wrong...again. It's not about left and right. It's about looking beyond the fact that someone is and was a great patriot, but is horribly weak as a leader.

The left believes this is a great nation that can get better and is willing to make the sacrifice and commitment to make it better.

Unlike the right who believes because their little corner of the world is peachy all is right with the world.

Pathetic.

All you have to do is listen to what Obama actually says or does not say to make up your mind. Do not listen to what others say he said or write that he said. Go straight to the source. From what Obama has said, his wife has said, his pastor has said, his acquaintances have said and done, he will not get my vote.

which two emails were true?

Posted by TennesseeDavis on August 17, 2008 at 6 p.m. (Suggest removal)

If you don't want to continue the cycle of bad or misleading emails, hit the freakin delete button.
Assuming that only Christians send these emails is aburd. That is playing a religion card if I've ever seen it. Typical tool of the left here, saying it is an orchestrated Christian campaign. That is their gripe, but when someone says "all muslims are terrorists", they bite back with a vengance saying that is religious and racial profiling (which is correct). That said, so is pigeon-holeing all Christians as distributors of anti-Obama material. Works both ways, but that's just my 2 cents.

Posted by jarlead on August 17, 2008 at 10:12 p.m. (Suggest removal)

If the left is orchestrating that Christians are sending these emails, soes that mean the left are not Christians?

Posted by TennesseeDavis on August 17, 2008 at 10:40 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Not at all laj...there are a ton of good folks on the left that are Christians just as there is on the right...but those certain folks that work as "talking heads" and throw the stones for the left and the right love to drive these wedges and play the blame game, often using a race or religion card because those are the most divisive.
Maybe my gripe is more with the PC police than the left I called out, but from the comments that I saw above from lefties, that is why I called out the left.

Its amazing what lengths people will go to, to try and win an election.
Christian spreading lies that they know are lies.
Swift Boaters that write books that are nothing but lies, and they went on tv and admitted it.
Rush Limbaugh doing what he does best , being a nut.
All of this to make sure their career politician gets elected.
If this is the type of people John McCain alings himself with, then what does it have to say about his integrity.

I heard no one crabbing about the e-mails making the rounds a couple of years ago about Rick Perry having a homosexual affair and how the affair would destroy the Republican party. The story broke, but it wasn't Rick Perry, wasn't in Texas, and wasn't a Republican. I know some people in the Abilene area who still believe that story and are anxiously awaiting it to become public. Of course, these aren't fact finders or fact followers, just Rick Perry haters. I just want to point out that Saturday night only one candidate actually took the opportunity to explain what it means to be a Christian. One said "Jesus Christ died for my sins and I'm redeemed through Him", and one said two words and neither included Jesus, and then he started telling a story about himself. What an opportunity to actually verbalize the most important truth in the world and the one who did it is the very one that so many (definitely not all) criticize and say he's not a Christian.

Jesus only matters if you dress him up in a conservative suit and tie and have him utter support for killing Islamofacists before they kill us, free enterprise and, most important of all, lower tax rates. Amen.

Ok, it is an exaggeration. But not much.

Morals and good values are not exclusively christian, I know many christian/non-christians, male/female, gay/straight, republican/democrat, that have great morals. You attack people because they don't think like you and that is a disgrace to whatever group you fasten your horse to.

You have a guy who is in the theater for three months and gets three Purple Hearts, and a Silver Star with Valor, which doesn't exist.

All of this while on a little boat patroling in an area that did not see combat.

You figure it out.

McCain probably knew what any quasi objective observer knew--the Swift Boat group was politically motivated and its smear campaign was based on dubious information and outright lies.

Take Swift Boat member Alfred French, for example...

"I served with John Kerry. . . . He is lying about his record." French swore in a legal affadavit.

French later admitted he had no first hand knowledge of the events he said Kerry was lying about.....

I could go on but what's the point? Kerry is not running. The Swift Boat group has been discredited, albeit too late to do Kerry any good.
