Two experts in architecture and historic preservation, Marcel Quimby and Brian M. Davis, will speak at the first in a lecture-workshop series, Talking About Architecture and Preservation, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Elks Arts Center.
There is no cost to attend the lecture, but reservations are requested. To reserve a seat, call (325) 676-3775 ext. 100 or e-mail info@abilenepreservation.org by Friday.
Box lunches will be available for $8.25.
Quimby is a distinguished leader in Dallas’ preservation community. In addition to working on complex restoration projects such as the Newton County Courthouse, she has prepared a preservation plans for Dallas’ historic Municipal Building, the Dallas Parks System and the city of Fort Worth. She will speak on preservation and urban design as an economic development tool, and show examples of the cutting edge historic preservation in communities in Texas and elsewhere.
Davis is the director of Preservation Services for the Galveston Historical Foundation. He received his bachelor of architecture degree from Louisiana Tech University, and worked in architecture firms in Houston and Galveston for eight years before becoming a staff member of GHF in 2004. He will have a presentation about what to do with the Hopeless House, and the great success Galveston has had with turning around neighborhoods.
